Darlene Oakes Clayton Ashford, 87, of Russell Springs, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral service for Darlene Oakes Clayton Ashford will be 12pm noon CT, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Carroll Egnew officiating. Friends may call after 11amCT, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Burial will be in the Lawless Cemetery.

She was Monday, born May 10, 1926 in Champaign, Champaign County, IL. She was the daughter of the late Claude & Mary Price Oakes. She died Friday, August 16, 2037, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 87 years, 3 months, and days.

She was a retired hostess in Hospitality Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ashford; son, Gary Waitte Clayton; a grandchild, John Travis Clayton; and a brother, Jack Oakes.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two children: Sandra L. Shappley, Russell Springs, KY; and Thomas Dexter (Gwen) Clayton, Aberdeen, TX

  • Four grandchildren: Tracy Edmonds Johnson, Gary Patrick Clayton, Karmaday Hutchinson, and MacKenzie Lennon

  • Nine great grandchildren

  • One sister: Ruth Stephens, Russell Springs, KY

  • One brother: Glen Oakes, Russell Springs, KY
