Mrs. Margery Mathis Henderson, age 79, of Burkesville, KY passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, KY.

Funeral services for Margery Mathis Henderson will be conducted on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 1pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Dr. Don Mathis and Dr. Mark Shelton officiating. Special music and singing will be provided by Libby Mullinix and Dr. Mark Shelton. Burial in the Grider Memorial Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. The family will receive friends after 2pmCT, on Thursday August 8, 2013 until service time on Friday.



Pallbearers will be Will Hurt, Craig Johnson, Junior Smith, Burgess Brown, Wayne Baker, Jason Brege and Donnie Mathis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Brege, Mark Brewington, Duane Diuguid, Ray Diuguid, Keith Henderson, Dale Mathis and Phil Puckett.

She was born on Sunday, April 15, 1934 in Hopkinsville, Christian County, KY the daughter of Alvurn and Beatrice Miles Mathis. She died Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 19 days.

She was a member of the Burkesville Baptist Church, an author, having authored several books. She is survived by the following:
  • Her daughter and son-in-law: Cynthia Henderson Hurt and Judge Steve D. Hurt, of Burkesville, KY

  • Her siblings: Caleb Mathis, Jr., Jimmie Mathis, both of Hopkinsville, KY; Dr. Don Mathis of Bowling Green, KY; and Sharon Brege of Atlanta, GA

  • Her grandchildren: Scott Hurt of Eszprem, Hungary; Holly (and Craig) Johnson of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Will Hurt of Burkesville, Kentucky,

  • Her great-grandson: Cole Delton Johnson

  • Her special family members: Junior Smith, Lombeh Brown, Burgess Brown and Carsemu Brown.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Glenn Henderson, her daughter, Teresa Henderson, her brother, Walter Mathis and her sister, Denena Brown.
