Mrs. Evelena Gilbert Monroe, age 83, of Green Grove Road in Cumberland County, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Clinton County Hospital in Albany, Kentucky.

Funeral services for Mrs. Evelena Gilbert Monroe will be conducted by Bro. Gary Cash, Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2pmCT/3pmET, in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in the Modoc Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5pmCT/6pmET, Saturday, June 22, 2013 until the funeral hour on Sunday.



She was born in the Bakerton Community of Cumberland County, KY, on Saturday February 22, 1930, the daughter of Tom and Eva Buster Gilbert. She died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Albany, Clinton Co., KY, at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 25 days.

She was a member of the Holly Grove United Methodist Church, a seamstress for Sutton Shirt Corporation, a farmer and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Richard Monroe, her sons, Mikel, Dean, Monroe, and Charlie Gilbert; her daughter, Sandra Monroe Cash; her brothers, Harley "Craw" Gilbert, Garmon Gilbert, and Bunk Gilbert; and her sisters, Nellie Scott, Anna England and Lucy Davidson.

She is survived by:
  • Her children, Joe Richard Monroe and Rebecca Whitley of Burkesville, KY; Teddy L. Monroe of Camby, IN; Dewayne Gilbert of Baltimore, MD; and Marvin Ray Gilbert of Elizabethtown, KY

  • Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren
