Ruth Eleanor McComas, 95, Cumberland Co., KY (1918-2013)

She and her husband had business interests in Miami including the Tropicaire and Dixie Drive In Theaters. She was a long-time member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She and the McComas family, early settlers of Cumberland County, have maintained their ties with the community and have supported numerous institutions and projects here including the Cumberland County Library, the Cumberland County Hospital and the Burkesville First Christian Church

Ruth Eleanor McComas, 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at her home in Miami, FL.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday June 22, at 1pmCT/2pmET, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Rev. Scott Ferguson officiating. Private Interment will be in the Burkesville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends after 12:30pmCT, Saturday June 22, 2013 until the funeral hour.



Ruth Eleanor McComas, 95, Cumberland Co., KY (1918-2013)

She was born on February 19, 1918 in Frostburg, Allegany County, MD. She was, the daughter of the late Riley A. and Margaret Graham Slade. She died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Miami, Dade County, FL at the age of 95 years, 3 months, and 10 days.

She and her husband had business interests in Miami including the Tropicaire and Dixie Drive In Theaters. She was a long-time member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She and the McComas family, early settlers of Cumberland County, have maintained their ties with the community and have supported numerous institutions and projects here including the Cumberland County Library, the Cumberland County Hospital and the Burkesville First Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, D. Keith McComas, and two sons, W. Ralph McComas and A. Dix McComas.

She is survived by:
  • A son, J. Keith McComas, his wife Femmie

  • Two granddaughters: Pamela and Lorna McComas

  • And two great grandsons: Marc and Darryl McComas
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
