Jewell F. Kerns, age 91 of Louisville, KY formerly of Adair County, KY, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Hosparus Patient Care in Louisville, KY.

Funeral service: Monday June 3, 2013 at 11amCT/12pm noon ET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY/ Visitation after 1:30pmCT/2:30pmET, Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.Burial in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY.

She was born in Adair Co. KY on July 1, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Guy and Beatrice Coomer Firquin. She died Friday, May 31, 2013, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 30 days.

She was a retired Jefferson County School System teacher where she taught at the Fairdale Elementary School for many years.

She was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church in Shepherdsville, KY.

She was a good and loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband: Olen Kerns on March 2, 1997; one brother: Rev. Joe Firquin; and two sisters Ruby Bell and Elva England.

She is survived by the following:
  • Two daughters: Donna Garner (Dan) of Scottsburg, IN; and Martha K. Cundiff (Rick) of Shepherdsville, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Jeff and Jason Waters, Melanie Smith, Daniel Cundiff

  • Three great grandchildren

  • Two brothers: Guy Firquin of Louisville, KY; and Jimmy Firquin of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And a host of friends and relatives
