Robert Lee Coffey, Adair County, KY (1930-2013)

Mr. Coffey was a member of the Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church where he had served has a deacon and board member. He was a foreman for the R. E. Gaddie Asphalt Plant in Columbia for many years and was a self-employed electrician and plumber. He was a charter member of the Adair County Rescue Squad, a member of the gospel group "God's Workers". He was also an avid long time CB radio operator with the handle of "Coffee Cup" He was the patriarch of a large, highly regarded family. He was the son of the late Eligah and Mary Bedwell Coffey. His marriage to Agnes Taylor Coffey spanned a remarkable 62 years. He leaves 20 direct and 1 step living descendant

Robert Lee Coffey age 82 of the L. Hancock Road, Columbia, KY entered his heavenly home on Saturday, May 4, 2013 after several months illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 1pmCT/2pmET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home Clergy, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jim Antle officiating. Interment in the Bearwallow Cemetery, 6090 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. The family request visitation after 4pmCT, on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: James Coffey, Wayne Irvin, Ricky Smith, Chris Coffey, Sam Smith, Shawn Smith, and Jonn Stephens

Honorary pallbearers: Elvin Giles, Romer Coffey, Eugene Rooks, Bobby Coffey, and the members of the Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church.

Robert Lee Coffey, Adair County, KY (1930-2013)

He was born Sunday September 14, 1930 in Knifley, Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Eligah and Mary Bedwell Coffey. He died Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

Mr. Coffey was a member of the Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church where he had served has a deacon and board member. He was a foreman for the R. E. Gaddie Asphalt Plant in Columbia for many years and was a self-employed electrician and plumber. He was a charter member of the Adair County Rescue Squad, a member of the gospel group "God's Workers". He was also an avid long time CB radio operator with the handle of "Coffee Cup" He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Agnes Taylor Coffey, of Columbia, KY and the following:
  • One son: James Robert "J. R." Coffey of Columbia, KY

  • Three daughters: Alice (Wayne) Irvin Columbia, KY; Linda (Ricky) Smith Columbia, KY; and Judy (Kyle) Stephens Russell Springs, KY

  • Two brothers: Romer Coffey of Columbia, KY; and James Coffey of Edinburg, IN

  • Three sisters: Nannie Swallows, Betty Rooks, Polly Rooks all of Edinburg, IN

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Eight great grandchildren

  • And one step great grand child
