Rain Barrel Workshop April 26, 2013, WKU-Glasgow

A WKU GreenToppers project
Barrels are made from recycled material and can hold 55 gallons of water, so they are an effective way to conserve water and save money

To celebrate Earth Day, WKU GreenToppers are offering a Rain Barrel Workshop in the parking lot of WKU's Glasgow Campus, 500 Hilltopper Way, Glasgow, KY, 3:30pm-5:30pmCT, Friday, April 26, 2013. Registration takes place through April 18. To register, visit Join Rain Barrel. For information, call WKU Lifelong Learning at 270-745-1912 or email ll@wku.edu.

Participants will learn how to make their own rain barrel to collect rainwater directly from their home's gutter system and store it for later use. "Building your own rain barrel is a great way to celebrate Earth Day," said workshop instructor Amy Nemon. "These barrels are made from recycled material and can hold 55 gallons of water, so they are an effective way to conserve water and save money."

According to Nemon, similar rain barrels can cost nearly $100-$400 at a retail store. The cost of the workshop is only $55, which includes all materials and instruction to build one rain barrel that participants can take home and install.
