Eleven died on KY roadways Apr. 1-7, 2013, including 1 in Adair Related: Accident on KY 206 takes life of 49 year old Columbia, KY woman From TFC Billy Gregory, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY FRANKFORT, KY - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 11 people died in nine separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, April 1 through Sunday, April 7, 2013. Two double-fatality, motor vehicle crashes occurred: one in Breckinridge County and one in Estill County. One of the Breckinridge County, KY, victims was not wearing a seat belt. One single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Adair, Calloway, Madison and Todd. The victims in Adair and Todd counties were not wearing seat belts. One ATV crash occurred in Pike County. The victim was not wearing a helmet. Two pedestrians were killed in Jefferson County. Through April 7, preliminary statistics* indicate that 137 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013. This is 37 less than reported for this time period in 2012. Of the 119 motor vehicle fatalities, 59 victims were not wearing seat belts. One of the four motorcycle fatalities was not wearing a helmet. The one ATV fatality was not wearing a helmet. Twelve pedestrians have been killed. One fatality involving an animal drawn vehicle has been reported. A total of 26 fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol. As of April 7, Kentucky has had 25 days with zero highway fatalities reported during 2013. Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible. *These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
