V. Kolbenschlag: God would want humankind to Care for Earth Her church promotes recycling, something the author thinks God would want mankind to do. She wants every church to join in the effort, as her church is doing. By Vonnie Kolbenschlag Caring for the Earth seems to me to be something God would want humankind to do. The Columbia United Methodist Church promotes recycling by providing containers for recyclable items. Think of the church bulletins and teaching materials that are often thrown away. Think of the items used during fellowship activities - plastic bottles, cardboard containers, and aluminum cans. These items should be recycled - but it takes reminders not to just toss everything "away." If a recycling container is put in place make sure it is labeled as such with what can be recycled. If every church encouraged recycling, there would be less going to the landfill and it would set an example of caring for the Earth's creation. I would like to add also the "love your neighbor" aspect and not discard garbage with the recycled items, because someone has to sort the items. Small batteries that are put in garbage contaminate land, ground water. The recycling center takes those, too. - Vonnie Kolbenschlag Comments re article 58721 Could Mayor Harris Recycling idea stave off Garbage Rate Hike This story was posted on 2013-04-08 03:36:18
