Mrs. Irvin was a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church and was retired from the Fruit of the Loom. She was the matriarch of a very large, highly regarded Northeast Adair County, KY, family. She leaves 53 direct and eight step living descendants

Edith Marie Irvin, age 84 years of Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday March 20, 2013 at 5pmCT,. at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center in Columbia, KY. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 1pmCT/2pmET, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Clifton Bennett and Bro. Jamie Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Bearwallow Cemetery, 6080 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 1:30pmCT/2:30pmET, Friday, March 22, 2013, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers Brian Brock, Greg Brock, Andy McAllister, Nick Cunningham, Mark Bennett, Nathan Irvin, Jeremy Irvin and Jacob Irvin

She was born on Monday, March 11, 1929 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Sinclair Burton. She died Wednesday March 20, 2013 in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 84 years, 9 days.

She was the widow of Matthew Irvin who preceded her in death on February 2, 1995; also preceded in death by a son David Irvin on February 21, 2009, two brothers, Roger Winston Burton and Ray Burton and two sisters, Glena Rooks and Eunema Goodin.

She is survived by the following:
  • One son: Mike (Jodi) Irvin of Columbia, KY

  • Six daughters: Gearoldene (Ralph) Brock of Campbellsville, KY; Louise (Steve) Patton of Campbellsville, KY; Charlene (Lester) Brock of Columbia, KY; Arlene (Lonnie) McAllister of Columbia, KY; Rosemary (Clifton) Bennett of Columbia, KY; and Libby (Ned) Cunningham of Russell Springs, KY

  • Three brothers: James Alton Burton of Columbia, KY, Billy Joe Burton of Edinburgh, IN, and Danny Dale Burton of Flatrock, IN

  • Three sisters: Freida Hembree of North Vernon, IN, Lucille Cook of Edinburgh, IN; and Patty Lee of Columbia, KY

  • Eighteen grandchildren

  • Twenty-six great grandchildren

  • Two great great grandchildren

  • Five step grandchildren

  • Three step great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
Mrs. Irvin was a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church and was retired from the Fruit of the Loom.
