Epicurean Kentuckian: Link/story on roadkill

Click on headline for story, picture of Jericho, Adair County, KY and Butler County, KY roadkill aficionados

Blue Ribbon Bear Board member and connoisseur Johnny Vaughn who lately visited West Virginia to enjoy the Roadkill Cookoff, isn't alone in appreciating the gourmet fare found on highways.

A Gradyvillian sends a link to a story in the New York Times online about the Montana Legislature enacting a law to allow Montanans the economic and nutritional advantages of animal nutrition following unfortunate vehicle vs. varmint incidents. The link is: Doubling Back for the Roadkill at NYTime.com.

The idea invites the question: What about Kentucky? What's the law on freshly killed deer? If there's no law similar to Montana's, is there any move to enact one? - CM

Epicurean Kentuckian: Report from Marlington, WV

2012-12-05 - Marlington, West BG Virginia - Photo by Innocent Bystander.
Noted Restaurant Reviewer and Raconteur Johnny Vaughn, Jericho, KY, and sidekick Rick Scott, from elsewhere, recently attended the Marlington, W. Virginia, Road Kill Cookoff. Mr. Vaughn was not too keen on the Porcupine Shishkabob, dissing it as somewhat dry and grainy. "However," he said, "the Possum Burgoo was excellent," adding, "The Wild Board and Bear was just like we cook it at home." He said that he and the Hon. Rick Scott could not find the rattlesnake. "It didn't matter, though," he said, "we'd had some at home before we left." All in all, he said, it was an worthy adventure and a good time was had by all.
