Mrs. Dorothy Lewis Radford, Cumberland County, KY (1925-2013)

She was a class of 1944 Graduate of The Martha Norris High School in Marrowbone, received her Associates Degree from Lindsey Wilson College, and received her Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Rank One all from Western Kentucky University. She taught for 41 years all in the Cumberland County School System, having taught in Ashlock, Howards Bottom, Burkesville School and Cumberland County teaching at one time or another all 12 grades. She was a member of The Grider United Methodist Church from 1939 to 1948, she then became a member of Parrish Chapel United Methodist Church in 1948 until her passing. She was a member of The Cumberland County Retired Teachers Association, The Kentucky Education Association and The National Education Association

Mrs. Dorothy Lewis Radford age 87, of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Saturday January 12, 2013 at the Cumberland Valley Manor in Burkesville, KY.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 1pmCT/2pmET, in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Rev. Neil Janes and Dr. David Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in The Burkesville Cemetery. Friends may call after 5pmCT/6pmET, Monday, January 14, 2013 until the funeral hour Tuesday.



Mrs. Dorothy Lewis Radford, Cumberland County, KY


She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Monday March 30, 1925 the daughter of Thomas and Mabel Denney Lewis. She passed away Saturday January 12, 2013, in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

She was a class of 1944 Graduate of The Martha Norris High School in Marrowbone, received her Associates Degree from Lindsey Wilson College, and received her Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Rank One all from Western Kentucky University. She taught for 41 years all in the Cumberland County School System, having taught in Ashlock, Howards Bottom, Burkesville School and Cumberland County teaching at one time or another all 12 grades. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Strut" Radford (whom she married January 3, 1948) and her Son, Jimmie Radford.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her son: Steve (and Sherry) Radford of Burkesville, KY

  • Her grandchildren: Lori Sandlin, Chad Radford, Melanie (and Doug) Willis, Meredith (and Jon) Myatt, Tiffany (and Troy) Huddleston and Travis Radford

  • Her great grandchildren: Lanie Willis, Hallie Willis, Miley Willis, Gracie Myatt and Saylor Sandlin

  • Her brother in law and sister in law: Keith and Mary Radford of Albany, KY

  • Her niece: Beth (and Croxton) Gordan
  • Her great nephews: Christian and John Gordan.
