Robert Murrell, Shelbyville, IN (1941-2013)

He was a native of Adair County, KY, and lived in the Lowe's Lane area of Jamestown Hill, Columbia, KY during his childhood. He was educated in public schools in Columbia, KY. He was a member of a large, respected Adair County, KY family. His marriage to Stella Brown endured for 40 years until her death in 2003. He leaves four direct living descendants. He was a member of the Baptist Temple and was retired after 41 years service with Classic Auto Center. Robert enjoyed tinkering with automobiles and fishing.

Robert Murrell, 71, of Shelbyville, IN, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at Major Hospital, Shelbyville, IN, surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 10am-11amCT/11am-12pm noonET, on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN. Funeral services will be at 11amCT/12pmET/ on Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ian Farnsley officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.



Robert Murrell, Adair Co., KY native (1941-2013)


He was born Monday, September 29, 1941, in Columbia, Adair County, KY. He was the son of Fred and Carrie (Hawkins) Murrell. He died Friday, January 4, 2013, in Shelbyville, Shelby County, IN, at the age of 71 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

He married Stella Brown on October 20, 1962, and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2003.

Survivors include the following:
  • His sons: Donnie Murrell of Shelbyville, KY; and Billy Murrell

  • Daughter: Margaret Zinter of Brimington, Washington

  • Sisters: Joyce Aulby, Marilyn Burks, Alice Chance and Sharon Murrell, all of Shelbyville, IN

  • One granddaughter
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Timothy Murrell; daughter, Pam Theobald; brothers, Archie Murrell, Elzy Murrell and Elmer Murrell; and sisters, Martha Holland, and Dorthy Murrell. Mr. Murrell retired from Classic Auto Center in 2004, after 41 years of service. He was a member of Baptist Temple.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Association of Shelby County, P.O. Box 844, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
