He was a native of Russell County, KY, and the patriarch of an highly regarded Russell County, KY family. He was the son of the late John Thomas and Mary (Tucker) Stephens. His wife, Geneva Sullivan Stephens, survives.. He leaves 9 direct living descendants. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Luther Stephens, 92, of Billy Stephens Road, Russell Springs, died Tuesday at his home.

Funeral service for Luther Stephens will be 1pmCT/2pmET, Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with burial in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Sunshine, KY. Visitation will be after 5pmCT/6pmET, Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the funeral home. Rev. Billy Dunbar will be the officiating clergy. Special Singing will be rendered by Bobby Dunbar and Diane Hughes.



Pallbearers: Timothy Stephens, Jason Stephens, David Meece, Tommy Collins, Ronnie Cox, Greg Cox.

He was born Tuesday, April 6, 1920 in Russell County, KY. He was the son of the late John Thomas and Mary (Tucker) Stephens. He died Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2012, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 19 days.

He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Columbus, Joe, and Cecil Stephens; three sisters, Rittie Hill, Lula Mills, and Vertie Flanagan; and a grandchild, Hannah Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Sullivan Stephens and the following:
  • Three chlildren: Eddie Lee (Judy Mae) Stephens, Jamestown, KY; Etta Diane Meece, Russell Springs, KY, and Betty (Steve) Williams, Jamestown, KY

  • Five grandchildren

  • One great grandchild
