She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded South Adair County, KY, family. She leaves 39 direct living descendants. She was a member of Emory Chapel Methodist Church and had worked at Union Underwear and OshKosh

Myrtle Fletcher Coomer age 89 years of Columbia, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 3:30pmCT, at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center, Columbia, KY.

Funeral services are Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Stanley Watson and Rev. Steve Pescosolido the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Fudge Cemetery, 847 Independent Ridge Road, Breeding, KY. Visitation is after 3pmCT, Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: Joey Murrell, James Timothy Murrell, Michael Dearing Murrell, Barry Stotts, Doug Matney and Greg Janes.

Myrtle Fletcher Coomer, Adair County, KY (1922-2012)

She was born Saturday, October 21, 1922 in Cumberland County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Pearl Hardin Pierce. She died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

She was the widow of Dearing B. Fletcher who preceded her in death on January 31, 1992.

She later married John H. Coomer who preceded her in death on August 11, 2005.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Muthler; and a half-brother Manson Hulse.

She is survived by the following:
  • Four daughters: Linda Stotts and husband Todd of Breeding, KY; Connie Stotts and husband Junior of Columbia, KY; Mildred Matney and husband Bobby of Columbia, KY; Patricia Melton and husband Jackie of Albany, KY.

  • One son: Tony Fletcher of Somerset, KY

  • One half-sister: Lola Mae Coomer of Columbia, KY

  • Two half-brothers: Hank Hulse of Lebanon, TN and Stanley Hulse of Brandenburg, KY

  • Ten grandchildren

  • Twenty three great grandchildren

  • and one great great grandchild

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
She was a member of Emory Chapel Methodist Church and had worked at Union Underwear and OshKosh.
