Opinion: Thinks Fiscal Court should rethink animal adoption rates

By Lois Cunningham
Personal commentary

The Adair County Fiscal Court needs to rethink the cost of adopting a pet from Green River Animal Shelter.

It is the highest of any county around here.

You can go to Glasgow and get a cat that has already been spayed or neutered has its shots, and has an id chip implanted for $25.00.

In Bowling Green you can adopt a dog or a cat with the same things for $50.00 and on special days or for animals that have been there 30 days or longer the price drops; and yes, I did say for 30 days or longer.

The animals at these shelters have vet care, adoption promos, on local tv and radio stations, and at local festivals and events. If our shelter could do those kinds of things and get some help from national animal care organizations, like the SPCA etc. and even from some of the local organizations maybe we wouldn't have so many animals being put down or running the country side because families just leave them when they move.

Presently I have three very skittish cats that have come to my house because neighbors have moved and left them behind...if and when i can catch them i will take them to be neutered. Rescue animals folks they love you forever. Let's see if we can all help some of them - Lois Cunningham Comments re article 54432 Comment Spay Neuter Program
