News of the Lakeshore Cleanup for Green River Lake

We're hoping for a record turnout of volunteers this year for the Lakeshore Cleanup. It's been a huge success over the years.

We had 219 volunteers at the 2011 Cleanup, consisting of various school groups, Boy and Cub scouts, local community members and lovers of the lake all pitched in and volunteered for a day of work and fun.

Their efforts resulted in 211 bags of trash, 33 tires, refrigerators, a couch and scrap metal being removed from the shoreline at Green River Lake, providing a $14,033.52 cost savings to the Government, not to mention a more attractive shoreline and greater appeal for visitors.

The US Army Corps of Engineers' 26th Annual Volunteer Lakeshore Cleanup will be held on September 15, 2012 this year. Registration and trash pickup are from 9am-12pm noon ET/8am-11amCT. For more information or to register to help, call 270-465-4463. - Andrea O'Bryan, Park Ranger, Green River Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District. Phone: 270-465-4463
