CU signs golf stars from Adair & Green counties Adair's Ashley Goodin follows in big sister Lauren's footsteps; Green County state championship golfers Cassidy Scantland and Olivia Parrott (Adair Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey's granddaughter), the senior of the Parrott sister team, sign with Campbellsville University Click on headline for story with photo(s) CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY -- The early bird may get the worm, but a brand new coach has to get up before dawn to stay ahead of his competition. Coach Brent Vernon took over the CU women's golf program on August 1 and by August 17 he laid the ground work for his next four years when three high school seniors inked scholarship papers while on a campus visit. And, he didn't have to go that far to visit any of the three. Vernon's new Lady Tigers are Green County's Olivia Parrott and Cassidy Scantland along with Adair County's Ashley Goodin. They will be the building blocks for Lady Tiger Golf's future. "We got on them late and we are very lucky to have signed them," said Vernon. "We are very fortunate to get these three young ladies this quickly in the recruiting process. All three of them are very accomplished golfers, but not only that they are exceptional students," continued Vernon. "The experience that Cassidy and Olivia bring to the table, being on State Championship teams, is something that all coaches look for. They will bring an attitude to our program that will hopefully help us get to our overall team goals." Scantland and Parrott are neighbors Scantland and Parrott, who have grown up as neighbors in a subdivision near the Greensburg Country Club, have identical team golf resumes. Both have been on the Green County varsity since sixth grade, are members of two KHSAA State Championship teams, a State Runner-up, and two All "A" State Championship teams. And, both have been members of the All-State Academic Team. Scantland was All "A" individual medalist in 2011and finished second twice at the KHSAA All "A" event in 2009 and 2011. She has tacked on four top-10 finishes in matches so far this high school season. She has also been a participant in Governor's Scholars and was a 2011 Rogers Scholar. She has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked No. 1 in her senior class. Parrott has a Region 4 medalist honor to her credit and All-Conference honors for the past four years. She tied for third at the Rockcastle and Pulaski county invitationals so far this season. Parrott volunteers for numerous organizations, has a perfect 4.0 GPA and is also ranked first in her class of 125. "They both have tremendous work ethic, organization and a competitive spirit," said Rick Davis, Green County's coach. "They are instrumental in our success over the past seven years." Davis said there is not a lot of separation between his two players. "The fact that they're so close drives them," he said. "It doesn't surprise me at all that they signed to continue playing together. They're so close." Goodin has been member of Adair County High School team since 7th grade! Goodin has been a member of the Adair County golf team since she was in seventh grade. Her older sister, Lauren, played golf at CU for three years prior to taking a full-time position in the Campbellsville University Admissions Office. Goodin's aunt, Kim, is her high school coach. "I'm thrilled to death for her," said Kim Goodin. "She's a good golfer, but I also know she's capable of being even better. "Her best golf is ahead of her, especially if she'll accept the challenge and work on her game even more. She's good friends with Olivia and Cassidy and having them around will create new motivation for her." Goodin sports a low round of 71 in an 18-hole invitational and has been a member of the All-Region (2010) and All-Conference (2011) teams. She ranks in the top 10 of her senior class, according to her coach. Kim Goodin said that her No. 1 player for the past three years has an overall match record of 49-17-11 through her junior year. She has played high school golf since she was a sixth grader. She finished fourth at the Heartland Conference Tournament, 11th at Region and eighth and 13th, respectively, at the Warren East and Taylor County invitationals.
