A daughter is glad to see facelift for her Dad's old workplace

The J.T. COOMER BUILDING: Writer remembers the dedication, long hours her father, Lucian Edwards, worked to see that the school children of Adair County rode on safe busses, and how proud she is remembering the vital role he - and his successors - play in the school system's success
Comments about: The rest of the story on the J.T. Coomer Bldg. bus garage

By Debbie Selby

So glad to see a facelift to the J.T. Coomer Building.

My father, Lucian Edwards, was employed by the Adair County Board of Education as Head Mechanic.

He served in that capacity for several years. In fact, all together he worked for the Board of Education for 42 years, the majority of which were spent at the school bus garage.

He was working there when the new J.T. Coomer Building was erected. It was like getting a new toy to my Dad.

The majority of the time, these employees are taken for granted. I know there were times my Dad would work from 6am until 8pm in order for the children to arrive at school at the proper time.

No one stops to think how vital the garage employees are to the school system. It is a big responsibility to see that our children are placed on safe vehicles for transportation to school.

I think we should express our gratitude to these people, because I know in the years my Dad was employed there, he sometimes did not get the attention and appreciation he deserved.

It's a hard job and not just anyone can do it.

Again, I am so thankful for the facelift and I have fond memories of the school bus garage. It played a very important part in my family's life for years. - Debbie Selby
