Johnie R. Sprowles, Taylor Co., KY (1920-2012)

He was the patriarch of a large, highly regarded Taylor County, KY family, a retired farmer, and a member of the Zion Separate Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and will be accorded full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Johnie R. Sprowles, 91, of Campbellsville, KY died at 9:45pmET, Monday, August 6, 2012 in Campbellsville.

Funeral services will be at 11amET/10amCT, Friday, August 10 , 2012 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Campbellsville Street, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Ronda Arnett. Burial will be in Zion Separate Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be after 5pmET/4pmCT, at the funeral home.



Pallbearers: Billy Grimes, Mike Gribbins, Dan Jacobe, Buddy Sprowles, Olyn Sprowles, Paul Sprowles.

Johnie R. Sprowles, Taylor Co., KY (1920-2012)

Johnie R. Sprowles was the son of the late John Henry Sprowles and Rosie Price Sprowles. He was born in Larue County, Kentucky, Thursday, August 12, 1920. He died Monday, August 6, 2012 in Campbellsville, KY, at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Zion Separate Baptist Church.

He was a retired farmer.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.

He united in marriage to Esther Lyle January 17, 1946. She preceded him in death March 30, 1986.

He is survived by the following:
  • One son and daughter-in-law: Danny and Peggie Sue Sprowles of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Travis Sprowles and fiancee, Tara Pierce; and Jada and Shelly Gribbins and husband, Mike of Campbellsville, KY

  • Step grandson: Jesse Hurdt

  • One great granddaughter: Chloe Gribbins

  • One brother in law: Jessie Stiles of Campbellsville, KY

  • One sister in law: Goldie Sprowles of Campbellsville, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends
He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Matthew Gribbins and two brothers and nine sisters: Willie Sprowles, Charlie Sprowles, Mayme Underwood, Lula Carlisle, Mary Wright, Sadie Hall and Letha Hedgespeth, Effie Sprowles, Lizzie Lacy, and two sisters in infancy.

The Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Campbellsville Street, Campbellsville, KY in charge of arrangements.
