There were 2 Jamestown Hill Gangs BDY - Before Darrell Young The way it was, as Rodney L. Thompson, Sr., remembers it. Gangs were separate until the coming of W, Darrell Young to the big house on the once high hill were CVS is now building a drug store. Through dint of WDY personality and basketball diplomacy, the greater Jamestown Hill Gangs merged into dynamic force which lives on in mythic proportions in history today. Also of historical note: The Donnie Harvey Model A or Model T, which served as the Harvey Street Driving School instruction vehicle. Also, Gender Equality was strictly observed in the Further Out Jamestown Hill Gang membership, with inclusion of girl member, Linda Martin. Inspired by Ralph Roy Waggener's history, The Hill: (Jamestown Hill) as it was commonly known. There were actually two Jamestown Hill Gangs, the one at the Waggener household and the other one at little bit further out Jamestown Street at the Holland Harvey household, next to Harvey Street.That one consisted of me, Donnie Harvey, Mitch Harvey, R.G. Loy and, yes we had a female in our group, Linda Martin. One of my best memories is when Mr. Harvey bought Donnie a Model T or a Model A - I don't remember which one - and this group learned to drive, down Harvey Street and occasionally down Tutt Street. We were all about 12-13 years of age. When Clyde Young moved into his home, where the CVS is located, we all began to merge into one group. Mr. Young put up a nice basketball goal in his huge driveway and everyone started going there. If you did't want to play basketball, you could shine on your car, if you had one. The Young family was very gracious in letting us hang out there because we never caused a problem that was not resolved in a few minutes. We would play basketball even if Darrell was not at home.
