Wreck at interchange of Cumberland Parkway and S 61

Accident illustrates the need for the lights at the intersection, Vickie Pike says. It's in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Six Year Plan, she says, scheduled for 2012-2016. She hopes that date can be moved up. She urges everyone to contact elected officials to get them to move ahead with the project

By Victoria Pike

I was just coming in from the hayfield when I heard tires squeeling and a loud crash. Two cars had crashed on the upper section of the bridge near the entrance to the Cumberland Parkway East.

It sure would have helped if we had those lights that are coming in the future for the interchange.

I rushed down to see if I could help, but the young man I talked to said he was ok and a nurse had stopped to see if he could be of assistance.

I hope that this will encourage those who hold the purse strings to the state road funds to look into the urgent need for the lights sooner than 2016.

Everyone who travels this section of road needs to get in touch with their elected officials and encourage them to ask for help with the lighting of the interchange.

For those who don't know, the Cumberland Parkway Interchange at Burkesville Road, near Walmart, is in the six year road plan, 2012-2016, to get lights in 2016. - Victoria Pike
