Mrs. Joyce Geraldine Smith Johnson, age 71, of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday May 17, 2012 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1pmCT, Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY with Bro. Gary Cash officiating. Burial will follow in the Burkesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 2pmCT, Saturday May 19, 2012 until service time on Sunday.



Mrs. Joyce Geraldine Smith Johnson, Burkesville, KY (1940-2012)

She was born on Sunday, May 19, 1940 in Cumberland County, Kentucky, the daughter of Elvin Ray and Lela Witham Smith. She died Thursday, May 17, 2012, in Burkesville, KY, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 29 days.

She was of the Christian faith, a 1958 graduate of Cumberland County High School and a cashier at Walmart.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnson and her brother, Herman Smith.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her son: Bobby (Kathy) Johnson of Burkesville, KY

  • Her daughter: Teresa Johnson (special friend, Beth Lizer) of Nicholasville, KY

  • Her step children: Larry Johnson of Lexington, KY; Perry (Deb) Johnson of Beaver Dam, KY; Nancy ( Lelan) Geary of Hartford, KY

  • Her brother, Teddy Smith of Muncie, Indiana

  • Her brother in law: Howard Sewell of Sullivan, Indiana

  • Her sister-in-law: Effie Johnson of Burkesville, KY

  • Her six step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews and cousins
