Mrs. Mary Norris Scott, Cumberland Co., KY (1920-2012)

She was a member of a highly regarded Cumberland County, KY, family, of the Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church, and a homemaker

Mrs. Mary Norris Scott, age 91 of Louisville, KY, and formerly of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday March 25, 2012 at the Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday March 27, 2012 at 2pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Dr. Ken Greene and Bro. Stanley Holman officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose of Sharon Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. The family will receive friends after 10amCT on Tuesday until service time.



Pallbearers will be Carl Greene, Norris Scott, Ken Greene, Kevin Greene, Jerry Hazelip, Rev. Gary Hardin and Greg Holman.

She was born on Friday October 1, 1920 in Cumberland County, Kentucky to Benjamin Robert "Dade" and Cora Garner Norris. She died Sunday, March 25, 2012, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 24 days.

She was a member of Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Annie Norris, Granville Norris, Jesse (and Maxie) Norris, Dimple Norris, Lucy (and Hall) Riddle, Edna (and Loy) Wray and Glena Holman, her former husband, Carvil Scott, her nieces, Rebecca Stockton and Dedra Holman.

She is survived by:
  • Her children: Freeda (and Carl) Greene of Louisville, KY; and Norris Scott of Hodgenville, KY

  • Her grandchildren: Dr. Ken (and Shelley) Greene of Camden, NC; Kevin (and Holly) Greene of Louisville, KY; and Hannah Riggs of Sonora, KY

  • Her great grandchildren: Taylor Greene, Eden Greene, Madison Greene, Emily Greene, Elise Greene and Elaina Greene

  • Her brother in law: Bro. Stanley Holman

  • And several nieces and nephews
The family suggests memorials be made to Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina in her memory and may be left at the funeral home.
