L.G. (Peanut) McKinley, Adair Co., KY (1928-2012)

He was the beloved patriarch of a large Columbia, KY family. He leaves 24 direct living descendants. His marriage to Helen Fay Waggener McKinley endured a remarkable 60 years. He spent his childhood in Russell Springs, KY. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 6097, where he served as the Post Commander, Secretary and Treasurer and Quartermaster. He also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Adair County Fair. He was the owner of M & W Auto Parts, worked for Burton Auto Parts, Waggener-Walker Newspapers and Burton Ace Hardware.

L.G. "Peanut" McKinley, 83, of Columbia, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 7:28pmCT. at WestlakeRegional Hospital, Columbia, KY.

Funeral services will be at 11amCT, Friday, March 23, 2012 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with George Rice officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with full military honors presented by Columbia VFW Post 6097. Visitation after 4pmCT, Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the funeral home.

He was born Saturday, April 14, 1928 in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio. He was the son of the late Roy Lee and Audrea McBeath McKinley. He died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 6 days.Inaddition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcia Cook , three brothers,Nathan, Billy and Danny McKinley, and one grandchild, Stewart Grant.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 6097, where he served as the Post Commander, Secretary and Treasurer and Quartermaster. He also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Adair County Fair. He was the owner of M & W Auto Parts, worked for Burton Auto Parts, Waggener-Walker Newspapers and Burton Ace Hardware.

Survivors include his wife, Fay Waggener McKinley of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Sons: Mitchell (Donna) McKinley of Bowling Green, KY; and Mark McKinley of Glasgow, KY

  • Daughter: Mitzi (Ricky) Bault of Columbia, KY

  • Sister: Nellie (Edwin) Lawless of Russell Springs, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Cyndi Skains, Mitch McKinley, II, Holly Jo McKinley, Steven Burton, Amy Whitaker, Anna Burton and Joey Burton

  • Fourteen great grandchildren
