Dr. Smith, DMD admires work ethic of beavers, despite confrontation Roger D.Smith DMD writes: Dear Ed: When we moved from the city to the banks of the mighty Russell Creek, I discovered that I had an infestation of the toothy little rodents living in one area of my bottom land. By nature, and not being a violent man, I admired the little rascals at their work and basically left them to their own devices until they felled three very nice poplar trees of about sixteen inches in diameter. It was then that I noticed that if the tree they decided to fell was no more than about one and a half inches through then they chewed at a very acute angle from one direction leaving a very sharp point. If the tree was greater in diameter then they felled it as if it had been put through a pencil trimmer. Either way this created a hazard to tractor tires and clumsy humans who might have a fall. Unfortunately, I had to do a little dozer work and encourage them to move to a more secluded spot. Even with hassle I still admire the little guys work ethic. --Roger D.Smith DMDComments re article 49661 Kentucky Color Beaver lodge This story was posted on 2012-01-27 17:33:09
