Last Call - Beginner gardener program starts next week

The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering an educational program beginning on January 24, 2012, for those who are new to gardening or who are looking to expand their knowledge of gardening. This program will emphasize the basic principles of gardening including site selection, soil preparation, pest management, when & what to plant, harvesting, and food preservation.

A total of 5 sessions will be held, with each session to be held at 6pmCT, at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia KY . Each session will last approximately 2 hours.



Classes will be taught by Extension Agents and Master Gardener volunteers.

  • Session 1- January 24, 2012. Site Selection & Soil Preparation
  • Session 2- February 28, 2012. Spring Growing Season & Pest Control
  • Session 3- May 29, 2012. Summer Growing Season & Pest Control
  • Session 4- July Harvesting & Storing
  • Session 5 - August/Fall Growing Season & Field Trip
Participation is free but participants must register by January 20, 2012 . Class size is limited. Each participant will receive a free soil test, a site visit, individual consultation during the growing season, and University of Kentucky research based materials. Beginner gardening classes deadline is January 24, 2012

A reminder from Wendy Burt that gardening starts in just a few weeks, and the time to plan and get ready is here - and the Adair County Extension office has issued a Last Call to sign up for a five session beginner gardener program starting January 24, 2012, to help new gardeners begin and experienced gardeners expand their knowledge of gardening. The session will be two hours each and will be taught by Extension Agents and Master Gardeners.
