Courthouse use: Fruitbasket turnover, musical chairs proposed Two moves: 1) Chamber/CACEDA, and Tourism to Courthouse. 2) Sell Chamber building to Columbia/Adair County Water District for $1 million By Ralph Roy Waggener Publisher, It's Just for a Smile News For a way to keep the old Adair Co. courthouse full of people and make it a place to visit, why not move the Columbia/Adair Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Economic Development offices there. Then it would be in the center of everything. This could bring other offices to this majestic old building. Making this building a place that has a regular flow of traffic will help it more than anything we can do. The Chamber's present building could be sold or turned over to the Adair/Columbia Water District that wanted to build a million dollar building for its offices. This building is ideal for the water district; a drive-in window could be installed for easy payment and would be easier to get to than the present water office or even the proposed $1 million office building proposed out by Walmart. -RALPH R. WAGGENER Just a note: Ideas for using the courthouse are coming fast and furious. Perhaps the most commonly applauded use, still, is opening up the second floor as a multiple purpose community room for plays, homecomings, reunions, and catered gathering. One caterer said the room would be worth a rental of $300 a meal, easily. -EW This story was posted on 2011-11-28 11:31:24
