Arvilla Garner, 95, Carey Road, Russell Springs, KY, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs, KY.

The funeral service will be Monday, October 10, 2011, at 10amCT, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Kelly Burton, Jr, the officiating clergy. Special music will be offered by Amanda Gilbert. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Sunday, October 9, 2011, at the funeral home.



Arvilla Garner, 95, Russell Co., KY (1915-2011)

She was born August 12, 1915, in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Mary Yates Higginbotham and the late George Higginbotham. She died Friday, October 7, 2011, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 95 years, 1 month, and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Robert Garner, and three daughters, Opal, Ruth Carlene, and Ruby; four sisters, Polly, Myrtle, Elsie, and Ruby; and one brother, Lester Higginbotham.

She is survived by the following:
  • Five children: Dorothy Holt, Jamestown, KY; Jo Ann (David) Zimmerman, New Jersey; Ollion Garner, Russell Springs, KY; Bobby Lee Garner, Jamestown, KY; and Carlos (Sharon) Garner, Indiana

  • Special friend: Charlotte Ross, Russell Springs, KY

  • Ten grandchildren

  • Several great grandchildren

  • Several great great grandchildren

  • And a host of nieces and nephews

  • Three sisters: Viola Bunch, Russell Springs, KY; Helen Hadley, Florida; and Willie Ruth (Bobby) Freck, Indiana

  • One brother: Rester Lee (Ruth) Higginbotham, Russell Springs, KY
She was a homemaker.

The Bernard Funeral Home, 367 Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, in charge of arrangements.
