By Ed Waggener

It was the most perfect day ever for Columbia's premier celebration, Downtown Days/Folklore of the Old West.

It was a day when superlatives aren't enough.

The weather was perfect.

The largest number of vendors were present.

A record number of "restaurants" lined the Food Court.

Vendors had great sales, and most said they would be back.

And local stores and restaurants sales were, from all accounts heavily impacted in a positive manner.

A good time, indeed, was had by all.

It was the first time at Downtown Days for Jeff and Tammy Thrasher of Bronston, Pulaski Co., KY, with their Stuff on a Stick Cookhouse, but if today goes anything like last night, they'll be back, they say. The food court has the most vendors ever, according to Gina Baker, a Downtown Days committee member and organizer.

As much as any other person, Degary Bailey, above at the Food Court at Downtown Days Saturday night, October 8, 2011. personified the old Circle R Restaurant. He was often called the most popular man in Columbia, and his old friend, then Senator Doug Moseley, said that there wasn't a person alive who could beat him if he chose to run for political office in Columbia. 2011-10-10 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Innocent Bystander.
They are of those who like to stay late at the festival: The Big Chicken, on the right in the photo above, and Mayor Mark D.
