Marshal Lee Barlow, Casey Co., KY (1928-2011)

He was a highly regarded former educator and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a great Christian servant whose ministry since 1954 included work as a Sunday School teacher and director, preaching in various churches in Boyle, Casey, Lincoln, and Pulaski Counties and long time work in prison ministries. His marriage to Mary Jane Scott Barlow endured a remarkable 60 years.

Marshall Lee Barlow, 82 of Liberty, KY, became absent from this body to be with the Lord Saturday July 16, 2011.

Funeral services are 1pmET/12pm noon CT, Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at New Testament Baptist Church with Bro. Rick Reynolds officiating. Burial is at Tapscott Cemetery with military honors by the Casey County Funeral Squad.Visitation is 5pm-9pmET/4pm-8pmCT, Monday, July 18, 2011,at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville ST, Liberty, KY, and continues Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the church from 7:30amET/6:30amCT, until funeral service.



Marshal Lee Barlow, Casey Co., KY (1928-2011)

He was born Wednesday, December 12, 1928 in Lincoln County, KY. He was the son of the late Dave A. and Anna Bell Dean Barlow. He departed this life on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 4 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Herlin Lee Barlow; four brothers , John Martin Barlow, and Robert H. Barlow, Albert D. Barlow and Lonnie F. Barlow.He has left to mourn his passing his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Scott Barlow, and the following:
  • Three sons: Paul Darrell Barlow of Liberty, KY; Harvey Dwight Barlow of London, KY; and Marvin Lewis Barlow of Lawrenceburg, KY;
  • Two daughters: Norma Jean Stone of Versailles, KY; and Teresa Beverly Blythe of Greenwood, IN

  • A brother: Elbert Barlow of Massachusetts

  • And six sisters: Josephine Gabehart of Mt Washington, KY, Georgie Adams of Indiana; Deloris Ann Godbey of Indianapolis, IN: Dollie Jane Noel of Campbellsville, KY and Elizabeth Garrett of Russell Co., KY; and Ova Wesley of Adair Co., KY

  • Nine grandchildren

  • Twenty five great grandchildren

  • A host of nieces and nephews

  • And a host of friends to mourn his passing

He served his Lord as a Sunday School director, as an Associational Sunday School Director and Associational Director of Evangelism, as adult Sunday School Teacher. He worked with the Kentucky and Ohio Sunday School Boards in conducting Sunday school campaigns in both states, preached revivals in Kentucky and Michigan, pastored three different churches, Pleasant View Baptist Church in Lincoln County, KY and McKinney and Liberty Baptist in Pulaski County, KY.

After his health forced him into retirement, he devoted his life not only to being a husband , father, and grandfather, but continued preaching in various churches in Boyle, Casey, Lincoln, and Pulaski Counties.

In the late 1980, he worked closely with the Kentucky Office of Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship Ministries, serving as small group leader in prison seminaries in both federal and state prisons. He became actively engaged in the prison ministries in 1987 and remained active until 2005;

He also actively served a Southern Baptist Home Mission Board and endorsed Volunteer Chaplain at Marion County Adjustment Center, Frankfort Career and Development Center, and North Point Training Center doing , counseling, Bible teaching and preaching and as chaplain at Casey County Jail.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Gideons International or Alzheimers Association.


McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville ST, Liberty, KY is in charge of arrangements.
