LWC School of Professional Counseling helps fight Malaria Money was raised selling t-shirts at Lindsey Wilson Colleges *25 (twenty-five) (XXV) community campuses Click on headline for story with current list of campus locations plus photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY -- Students, faculty and staff in the Lindsey Wilson College School of Professional Counseling sold t-shirts to help fight malaria in Africa. The students held a t-shirt drive this spring and summer that raised $1,870. The money was donated to the Uganda Counseling and Support Services, which is directed by LWC alumnus Ronald Kaluya. To raise the money, LWC students and staff sold more than 1,990 t-shirts at the college's 25 community campuses in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The shirts sold for $15 each or two for $25. "At least $5 from each shirt goes toward malaria prevention," said Jennifer Williamson, LWC associate professor of human services and counseling and director of the LWC Institute for Advanced Study. "Five dollars will buy one immunization, prophylactic malaria treatment or mosquito net. So for each t-shirt, we can prevent malaria in one person." The Uganda Counseling and Support Services is a non-profit social-justice organization that focuses on providing access to education, safe water, medical care and improved farming in the impoverished East African nation.
