He was born in Lexington, KY, and was a member of a large, highly regarded extended Adair Co., KY family. He was a Methodist minister for over 30 years and was a member of the Jeffersontown United Methodist Church

Rev. James Harold Coomer age 67 of Jeffersontown, KY passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Hurstbourne Care Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 2pm-8pmET, at Owen Funeral Home-Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville RD, Jeffersontown, KY. His memorial celebration will beat 6pmET/5pmCT, Friday, June 24, 2011,at Jeffersontown United Methodist Church, 10219 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown, KY, with memorial visiting starting at 5pmET, until servicetime. Burial will be private.

He was born in Lexington, KY He was the son of the late Rev. John L. and Nancy Coomer of Adair County.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years the former Trudy Laughinghouse, and the following:
  • Two children: Eric Coomer and wife Daphne and Katrina Drew and husband Dr. Jonathan Drew

  • Three brothers: Rev. John Carrol Coomer and wife Janice, Kenneth Coomer, Sr. and wife Linda and Wayne Coomer

  • Stepmother: Margie Rice Coomer of Columbia, KY

  • Two grandsons: Jackson Levi Coomer and Evan James Coomer

  • Many nieces, nephews and friends
He was pastor within the Kentucky Conference of The United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He was a member of Jeffersontown United Methodist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Lindsey Wilson College, Rev. John L. Coomer Scholarship fund or Jeffersontown United Methodist Church.
