Edward S. (Sonny) Thomas, Columbia, KY (1934-2011) He was well known geologist and discoverer of one of largest oilfield in Kentucky: The Hippie Oil Field in Southern Cumberland Co., KY Edward S. (Sonny) Thomas of Columbia, KY, 76, was born in Caruthersville, MO, August 21, 1934. He died at 4:35pmCT, Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Burkesville, KY. He professed faith in Christ and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was a well known geologist in the south central KY area and discovered one of the largest oil fields in Kentucky - The Hippie Oil Field in southern Cumberland County. He is survived by one daughter, Deanna Jungkans of Pittsville, Wisconsin and several other relatives and friends.
