She was the matriarch of a large, respected Metcalfe Co., KY, family. She leaves 36 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and a loving mother

Shirley Temple Firkins age 75 of Edmonton, KY, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at her home.

Funeral services will be held 2pmCT, Monday, May 16, 2011, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Firkins Cemetery. Visitationfrom 4:30pm-8pmCT, Sunday, May 15, 2011, and after 9amCT, Monday, May 16, 2011,at the funeral home.



She was a homemaker and loving mother.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bessie Poynter Gardner and wife of the late Ovie Firkins.

She is survived by the following:
  • six sons: Ricky (Donna) Firkins, Steve (Wilma) Firkins, Freddie (Patty) Firkins, Timmy (Cindy) Firkins, Samuel Firkins and Ovie Allen (Penny) Firkins, all of Edmonton, KY

  • One daughter: Vicky Firkins of Edmonton, KY

  • One brother Verlon Gardner of Florida

  • Four sisters: Leola Smith of Edmonton, KY; Jackie Compton of Glasgow, KY; and Betty Poynter and Ruby Scott, both of Indiana.

  • Fifteen grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton, KY, in charge of arrangements.
