The Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation Board will meet in a Special Called Meeting this evening, Monday, April 25, 2011, at 5pmCT to finalize an operating budget for the coming fiscal year. The meeting was set at the board's budget meeting on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

The final budget is due in the office of Adair County Judge/Executive Ann Melton no later than Tuesday, April 26, 2011, Chairman Charles Grimsley told the board.

The Board will be adding details to the tentative budget of approximately $37,000 per year, with most of the money going toward the operation of the old Christian Life Center (CLC).

Grimsley told the court that the target date for the completion of the sale is the end of May 2011. Use of the building could start as early as June 1, 2011, through early September, with possibly curtailed use during renovation phases after September 1, 2011.

That figure, the expenses, would be offset by income, including $10,000 annually, each, from the City of Columbia and Adair Fiscal Court. That $20,000, plus anticipated revenues of $5,000 from rentals and fees at the old CLC facility, leaving a roughly $12,000 doughnut hole, or deficit, to be made up from one or more sources, including additional money from Fiscal Court and City Council, private donations, and grants.

The biggest line item in the budget would be approximately $20,000 for payroll for two part-time employees, including a Park Supervisor and an Associate or Activities Program Leader. The remainder of the budget will allocated for utilities, maintenance, gas, office operations and supplies, convention expenses, printing and publicity, and other items.

At that meeting, Chairman Charles Grimsley presided, with Member/Secretary Donna Shirley recording the proceedings, and Member/Treasurer Bruce White organizing budget data. Also in attendance were members Bobby Bowe, Billy Dean Coffey, and Greg Thomas. Members Thomas Steele, Rebecca Schmidt, and Craig Dean were absent.
