WAIN, 3 sister stations raise $63,508 for St. Jude From Emily Wood, Forcht Broadcasting COLUMBIA, KY - Local radio station True Country WAIN 93.5 FM recently held its first annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids (R) radiothon on April 7 and 8, 2011.The local broadcaster participated this year with three of its sister Forcht Broadcasting stations located in Paintsville, KY; Crawfordsville, IN; and Olney, IL. The listeners of these four stations helped raise a combined total of $63,508 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during their respective radiothons. Although this was WAIN's first Country Cares for the charity's radiothon, the parent company has been a long time supporter of St. Jude, a center for the research and treatment of cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.Country Cares began in 1989 after Randy Owen, lead singer of the music group "Alabama," met St. Jude founder Danny Thomas. Since its inception, Country Cares has grown to an event with more than 200 radio station partners raising more than $385 million in pledges. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay.
