11 Adair A-Team members to compete in National History Bee

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Eleven members of the Adair County High School Academic Team will be stamping their names in the competition record books this weekend as they travel to Washington, DC, for the first ever National History Bee.

Team members traveling this weekend will be Luke Maupin, Ryan Montgomery, Jake Leibeck, Aaron Bradshaw, Chase Yaden, Candace Blackwelder, Audra Turner, Eddie Franklin, Heather Jackson, Kyle Castaneda, and Leane Blackwelder.

The competition will feature 73 schools from across the nation that advanced via national qualifiers in a format comparable to the National Spelling Bee and National Geography Bee. The students will be vying for the crown of National History Bee Champion in this inaugural year of the event.

All-time Jeopardy money winner Brad Rutter and other former Jeopardy champions will be in attendance as part of the festivities. Representatives from a major cable network will also be attending with the likelihood of the event being added to programming schedule and broadcast starting next year.
