Author Holly Goddard Jones to give reading here, April 12, 2011 Short stories of emerging author from Russellville, KY, have been compared to one of Kentucky's greatest ever authors, Bobbie Ann Mason By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - One of the South's exciting new authors will give a reading and speak on April 12, 2011 at Lindsey Wilson College. Holly Goddard Jones will read from her recently published collection of short stories, Girl Trouble  , at 7pmCT on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in the W.W. Slider Humanities Center, Recital Hall, 155 Blue Raider DR, Columbia, KY. The reading is part of the 2010-11 Lindsey Wilson Cultural Affairs Series. It is free and open to the public.A native of Russellville, KY, Jones' Girl Trouble was published in September 2009 by Harper Perennial. Her short stories - which have been compared to those of Kentucky author Bobbie Ann Mason - have also appeared in the Kenyon Review, the Hudson Review, New Stories from the South and Best American Mystery Stories. Jones, who teaches at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has received a great deal of critical praise for Girl Trouble, which is her debut collection of short stories, set in the fictional Kentucky town of Roma. Writing on the website Chapter16.org, Susannah Felts observed that while Jones "does look carefully at the Kentucky in which she was raised, tapping into veins similar to those explored by Mason," Jones is "no Mason redux." "With an unflinching eye toward grief and loss, Jones reminds readers of the dramas that are played out every day in modest living rooms and kitchens, in seemingly sleepy and homogeneous suburbs," Felts wrote. In a review of Girl Trouble in the Las Vega Weekly, one critic said Jones "could very well join the tradition of America's great Southern writers."
