Columbia area jobs picture better, overall, than last year

Only Metcalfe County in local area has higher unemployment in year-to-year comparison

  1. Taylor Co., KY, employment, 11.1%, down from 12.5% year ago.
  2. Green Co., KY, unemployment 11.6%, down from 14.3% year ago
  3. Casey Co., KY, unemployment 12.2%, down from 12.6% year ago
  4. Russell Co., KY, unemployment 12.3%, down from 13.7% from a year ago
  5. Adair Co., KY, unemployment 12.4%, down from 12.5% year ago
  6. Cumberland Co., KY, unemployment, 14.1%, down from 15.7% year ago
  7. Metcalfe Co., KY, unemployment, 17.1% up from 15.9% year ago.
Metcalfe County's jobless rate was the fifth highest in the state. Metcalfe County was one of 24 counties with increased joblessness. Unemployment stayed the same in three counties. The other 93 of Kentucky's 120 counties showed improvement. Statewide the February unemployment was 11.2%, while the nation as a whole had a comparable rate of 9.5%

Unemployment in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District was 12.6%. In the Barren River Area Development District, the rate was 11.3% for February 2011.
