On Saturday, April 16, 2011 Morgan will be teaching a Dulcimer workshop at the Watershed Art Gallery from 10am-12:30pmET. Please register for the workshop by Friday, April 8

Sarah Morgan first attempted to play the dulcimer when she was about 7 on an old instrument that her grandfather built. It sounded surprisingly good considering the peg head was attached to the wrong end! Soon, she discovered that it was too much work to learn to play the dulcimer and decided to quit.

Very soon afterward, she discovered that her parents really wanted her to learn to play the instrument, but when her family found a wonderful dulcimer teacher, June Goforth, Sarah found it was a little easier to be forced to learn now that she was being taught by someone who actually knew what she was doing.

And so, to her dad's and mom's amazement, she fell in love with the mountain dulcimer bit by bit. Now, the dulcimer never leaves her lap.

Sarah taught her first class by the time she was almost 13. Since then, she has taught, performed and given dulcimer programs at multiple places including the Big South Fork Storytelling Festival; the Ohio Valley Gathering; the Cumberland Dulcimer Gathering; and the Pickin' Porch in Townsend, Tennessee; Dulcimer Chautauqua on the Wabash; the kindergarten class at the local elementary school, the local business and professional association; and senior, FCE and 4-H clubs. She's also a regular teacher at her beloved dulcimer club, the Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club, where she is on the Board of Directors.

Morgan also teaches at multiple local dulcimer clubs. When she was 15 she competed, for the first time, and became the 2010 Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Champion. She went on to compete at the national level at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Kansas where she placed 3rd in the final round.
