LWC's Vergara, Track Athlete of Week; CU's Randles, Field AoW

South Central Kentucky schools dominate this week's selection in Track and Field. LWC's Ricardo Vergara, Edinburg, TX broke LWC program Record in 5,000 meter Race-Walk; Campbellsville University's P.J. Randles, Radcliff, KY, had outstanding showing at the Hanover College Invitational.

LOUISVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University's P.J. Randles is the Mid-South Conference Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday, March 28, 2011.



Randles, a freshman from Radcliff, KY, scored 26 points for the Tigers with a first, a third and a fourth place finish at the Hanover (IN) College Invitational. He captured the triple jump title with a leap of 13.49 meters, finished third in the high jump with a 1.78-meter jump and fourth in the long jump with a 6.15-meter jump.

Randles helped the Tigers finish third overall at the event. He also competed in one track event, placing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.73.

He qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship Meet in the high jump and 110-meter hurdles.

The MSC Track Athlete of the Week honor went to Lindsey Wilson College's Ricardo Vergara, who broke the LWC program record in the 5,000-meter Race Walk. The Edinburg, Texas, sophomore, completed the 5,000 meters with a time of 22 minutes, 52.5 seconds to finish third in the event and qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. LWC finished fifth overall at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open hosted by Cedarville (Ohio) University.

The weekly conference honors are the first of the season and of the careers for both Vergara and Randles.

The next men's track & field conference honors are scheduled to be announced on Monday, April 4, 2011.
