COLUMBIA, KY (2011-03-26) - For the second straight day, the Lindsey Wilson College baseball team split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader with visiting St. Catharine (KY) College at Egnew Park.

Timely hitting and clutch pitching helped the Blue Raiders (15-15, 7-7 in the MSC) win the opener 3-2. Lindsey Wilson dropped the nightcap in a rain-shortened 4-2 loss to the Patriots (20-18-1, 6-10 MSC).

In the opener, sophomore Jeff Kerian blasted his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning to put the Blue Raiders ahead for good in a 3-2 win. Kerian finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate with a run and a RBI.

The solo shot gave Lindsey Wilson its first lead of the day as St. Catharine jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in the second and third innings.

The Blue Raiders tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run double from junior Ryan Williams in the bottom of the third. Williams ended game one 1-for-3 with the two RBIs.

Lindsey Wilson senior starter Jose Castro and St. Catharine starter Adam Gillcrist kept the opposing bats at bay most of the game - as the two teams combined for just nine hits.

After 5-1/3 innings of two-run, four-hit ball, Castro gave way to sophomore Daniel Pulliam - who pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning en route to the win. Pulliam (3-2) finished the game with a hitless 2/3 of an inning.

Following Kerian's heroics in the bottom of the sixth, junior Jeremy Greene recorded his second save in as many days. Greene hurled a perfect seventh inning - including a pair of strikeouts - to collect his fourth save of the season.

Gillcrist (4-3) suffered the loss allowing three runs on five hits in his six innings of work. He finished with four strikeouts and two walks.

In the nightcap, rain affected an early pitching duel as St. Catharine beat Lindsey Wilson 4-2 to earn the series split.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore starter Rob Kurtz and St. Catharine starter Josh Jillson produced three scoreless innings prior to steady rain hitting Egnew Park. The rain resulted in both teams speeding up their normal routine in an effort to get what could be a winning run prior to the umpires deeming the field unplayable and ending the game.

The Blue Raiders dented the scoreboard first with a RBI single from junior Jeff Murphy in the bottom of the fourth to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead.

With the rains picking up, St. Catharine's Jeremy Turpin provided a two-out, RBI single to right field to tie the game at 1-1.

Following a scoreless bottom of the fifth, the Patriots scored three times, including a leadoff home run from Tyler Mischel, to give St. Catharine a 4-1 lead.

The Blue Raiders scored once in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough as St. Catharine won 4-2. At the completion of the inning, the umpire crew called the game one inning shy of the scheduled seven innings.

Kurtz (3-2) suffered the loss allowing three runs - two earned - on four hits in five innings of work. Pulliam pitched the final inning allowing an unearned run on no hits and one walk.

Jillson (2-4) picked up the win allowing two runs on four hits in 5-1/3 innings of work. Matt Wagner earned the save with a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.

Lindsey Wilson Baseball returns to action at 6pmCT on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 as the Blue Raiders host Berea (KY) College at Egnew Park, 820 Hanley LN, in Lindsey Wilson Sports Park (enter from 900 block of Russell RD/E. KY 80).
