'She's the best we've ever had, and that's a pretty good obstacle to get over, because we've had so many good players. What she's accomplished in three years is phenomenal to say the least. She's the most complete basketball player I've ever seen.' - CU Coach Ginger Colvin

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Whitney Ballinger took one more step toward etching Campbellsville University's name among the top in NAIA Women's Basketball, as she was named the NAIA Co-Player of the Year and a First Team All-American for the second straight season.

"We're real proud of her. Not only to have the National Player of the Year once, but twice. I think that's something very few programs in the country can boast about. It's something we're real proud of," said CU head coach Ginger Colvin. "She's the best we've ever had, and that's a pretty good obstacle to get over, because we've had so many good players. What she's accomplished in three years is phenomenal to say the least. She's the most complete basketball player I've ever seen."

Ballinger is the third NAIA Division I Women's Basketball player to win the award twice, according to NAIA records. The other two were Oklahoma City University guard Kesha Watson in 2003 2004 and Union University center Josephine Owino in 2008 and 2009. And while CU is one of the top teams in NAIA Tournament appearances, its run to join Union and OCU in the list of national champions fell short in the NAIA Quarterfinals this season.

"I'm really excited, but it was still a disappointment that we lost the way that we did. It's awesome to be able to get the award again this year. Ultimately, that wasn't what I was working for as much as a national championship chance," said Ballinger.

She shares the NAIA award with 2011 WBCA Player of the Year Meribeth Boehler of Freed-Hardeman University.

Ballinger, a 6-foot-3 senior from Carrollton, Ky., led the NAIA for points per game entering the NAIA Tournament, averaging 23.39 points through 31 games played this season. She finished the year with a total of 772 points, moving her into third-place on CU's all-time scoring list with 2,064 points. She finished in the Top 10 of seven stat categories. She was second in points per game (22.71) and total points. She was third in total blocks (107) and blocks per game (3.147), fourth in defensive rebounds per game (8.029) and ninth in total rebounds (352).

She was the only player in NAIA Division I to average 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks this season. She did so, averaging 28.6 minutes per game.

In 2010, Ballinger was named the WBCA Player of the Year and NAIA Co-Player of the Year after leading the nation in scoring (813), total blocks (147) and total rebounds (422). Each is a CU single-season record.

While her numbers may appear down from 2010, the team's numbers went up.

As a team, Campbellsville posted 70 more points and 58 more rebounds through 34 games than in 2010.

"I think her season was almost a carbon copy. The only thing that changed is our team got better. I don't think really anything changed with her, but that everybody around her got better and that was able to relieve some of the pressure around her," said Colvin.

Ballinger now hopes to follow Watson and Owino into the pro ranks. She will participate in a pro tryout April 1-2 in Indianapolis in front of WNBA and international scouts.

"I'm going into it open minded. All season I put off my future decisions on basketball until now. Hopefully I can go and play well and make a decision," said Ballinger.
