Boyhood search for Ol' Rob thwarted by the government

Varmintology

By Billy Joe Fudge

Before our federal and state governments put a stop to it, a couple of friends of mine and I would embark on nocturnal, Ol' Rob safaris under the guise of camping trips.

I can tell you that although we never were able to lay eyes upon this mythic beast, he tormented us beyond imagination from dusk to dawn. I always came armed to the hilt with my trusty eight-inch scabbard knife.

One local University Vice-President, who shall remain nameless, came armed only with a battery powered radio that was of no defensive or offensive use that I could ever see.

It did however, come in handy for listening to WHAS in Louisville for Ol' Rob reports and to the Chicago powerhouse radio station, WLS for all the biggest hits of our day.

If the government had not intervened by putting all safari members and campers into campgrounds, I am sure that Ol' Rob would eventually have been found either digging up a grave or lying amongst the driftwood along the lake's edge.
