Nineteen from Adair Co., KY receive degrees from LWC

Columbia, KY - Nineteen Adair County residents recently graduated from Lindsey Wilson College.

The 19 area residents were among 365 students who received undergraduate or graduate degrees at the college's 92nd commencement ceremony, held Saturday, December 11, 2011, in Biggers Sports Center.

The ceremony was LWC's seventh winter commencement, and it was the largest winter commencement ceremony held at the college.

The 19 area residents who received degrees from Lindsey Wilson were:

  • Veronica Bridgewaters of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling
  • Byron Butts of Columbia earned an associate of arts degree in history
  • Haley Cheuvront of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication
  • Sherri Crawhorn of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration
  • Jennifer Cundiff of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice
  • Nicholas Curry of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice
  • Ashley Graves of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree communication
  • Nicholas Hale of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice
  • Katelyn Hunt of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling
  • Elizabeth Jasper of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling
  • Kenny Lawhorn of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in history
  • Garrett Luttrell of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice
  • Deborah McGuinness of Columbia earned a master of education degree in counseling and human development
  • Daniel Moody of Columbia earned a master of arts in christian leadership
  • Byram Muteshi of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration
  • Jeffrey Nokes of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration
  • Ryan Storm of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication
  • Cornell Thomas of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in christian ministries
  • Latasha Warren of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication


In his commencement address, Kentucky Community and Technical College System President Michael B. McCall said the words of Bob Dylan's 1960s anthem "The Times They Are A-Changin'" are relevant to the world they face today.

Today's college graduates enter a world where a "profound transformation of world the economy" is taking place as technology revolutionizes everything in everyday life, including education, work and how wealth is created.

McCall received an honorary doctorate from the college's faculty and board of trustees. Also receiving an honorary doctorate was former LWC administrator and Kentucky state Sen. Doug Moseley of Bowling Green, KY.

Founded in 1903, Lindsey Wilson is a distinctive liberal arts college affiliated with the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Lindsey Wilson offers a bachelor of arts degree in 23 career areas, a bachelor of science degree in two areas, and master's degrees in three career areas. The college's 2010-11 enrollment is a record 2,554 students.

Veronica Bridgewaters of Columbia earned a bachelor of arts degree in human services and counseling at the Winter Commencement at Lindsey Wilson College. Above President Wm. Luckey, Jr, presents her diploma. Bridgewaters, an Adair County High School graduate, was one of 19 Adair Co. Students receiving degrees in a record ceremony for a Winter Commencement.
