Mrs. Ruth Wethington (Thompson) Houk, 92, departed this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Parkway Rehab and Nursing Center in Louisville, KY She was 92 years, three months and 22 days of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Wethington (Thompson) Houk will be conducted at 1pmCT, Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Thompson Cemetery on Liberty Lawson Road in Green Co., KY, with Rev. Geoffrey Lacefield officiating. Visitation is requested from 4-8pmCT, Thursday at the Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy in Louisville, KY. Visitation will continue after 9amCT, Friday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home until time of the funeral services.



Pallbearers: Victor Jett, Mark Jaggers, Larry Jaggers, Richard Jaggers, and Steve Stengel.

Mrs. Ruth Wethington (Thompson) Houk

Mrs. Ruth Wethington (Thompson) Houk was daughter of the late Ballard Wethington and Masso Hubbard Wethington, and foster parent: Bell Thompson and Alice Asbury Thompson, was born on Friday September 6, 1918 in Floyd County, KY and departed this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY She was 92 years, 3 months and 22 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Cloverleaf Baptist Church in Louisville. She was a former machine operator for the Enro's Shirt Co. in Louisville having worked 28 years. Mrs. Houk loved working with her hands, quilting, painting and crocheting.

She united in marriage to Arline Houk on July 13, 1937 who preceded her in death on May 7, 2002.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son: William Edgar Houk of Louisville, KY

  • Two granddaughters and their spouses: Debbie and John Mayhew of Louisville, KY; and Angela and Victor Jett of Indiana

  • A great-grandchild: Hayden Jett of Indiana

  • And a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Houk was also preceded in death by a infant daughter: Anita Louise Houk; a daughter-in-law: Marlene Allen Houk; a brother: Jack Walker; a sister: Alva Miller; foster brother and two foster sisters: Aubrey Thompson, Opal Lawson and Damond Thompson.

The Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
