News from the Adair County High School Band

From Mile Marker 114, I-65. 10:30amCT The Adair County Band is on schedule to arrive in Columbia, KY shortly after 12pm noon CT, today.

The band will be returning with perhaps its most savored championship ever, last night at Papa John's Stadium, where the Adair Countians were the dominating band among 20 of the very best Kentucky bands of all sizes, taking a clear cut win in the Class AAA Division. "There isn't a Grand Championship at the State Finals," Shamarie Claiborne said, "but if there had been, there's no doubt in anybody's mind that Adair County would have taken it."

Second year ACHS Band Director Tom Case was overwhelmed. "Unbelievable! Remarkable! Absolutely astounding victory," he said. "I am so happy for our students and so proud of The Band Nation."

Mr. Case will be addressing the band and the public at the world headquarters of The Band Nation, the Raymond Lacey Music Building, at 230 Gen. John Adair DR, Columbia, KY, shortly after the huge convoy arrives.

Jennifer Powell had a sign ready to greet the champs, at this location in front of Town Barber Shop and Mouser Real Estate. Her daughter, Heather Powell, is a member of the awesome ACHS Color Guard. She was in Louisville, KY for the show, and reported that not only did Adair County take the State Championship in its class, but also had the top overall score of any of the 20 bands, in all classes, in the finals. When the photo was taken, the band was just minutes away. At 12:24pmCT, the sirens of the lead escort Columbia Police Cruiser, the EMS truck, Columbia-Adair County Fire Department trucks, Kentucky State Police could be heard approaching on Campbellsville RD. At 12:26pmCT, they came into sight, signalling that the The Band Nation was home to another hero's welcome.

When this swank silver gray vehicle came into town with the State Seal plaque on top it was apparent dignitaries were aboard. They were. It was the Doyle Lloyd family, including Director Tom Case, Band Staff Member Brian Reesor, and Anna Lloyd, bringing home the KMEA Class AAA State Championship Award, which, unlike the traveling trophy, "Bob," will remain in Columbia forever. "Bob" is the affectionate term for the traveling trophy, which has spent the most of its last few years - 19 in all, at home, in Adair County, KY.
