Obituary: George Washington Cox, 93, Taylor Co., KY

He was the patriarch of a large, respected Merrimac, KY, family with many survivors in Taylor and Adair Counties, KY. He leaves 38 direct living descendants.

Mr. George Washington Cox, age 93, of Raikes Hill RD, Taylor Co., KY died Monday, October 4, 2010, at the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY, after an illness.

Funeral services for Mr. George Washington Cox will be held at 1pmET, Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Merrimac Christian Church with burial in the Merrimac Cemetery, with Brother Irvin Milby, Jr. officiating. The family requests visitation from 5pm-8pmET/4pm-7pmCT, Thursday October 7, 2010.



George Washington Cox, Merrimac, Taylor Co., KY (1917-2010)

He was the son of the late Charlie "Blacksmith" and Ellen Cox. He was born Monday, February 22, 1917, and died Monday, October 4, 2010, in Campbellsville, Taylor Co., KY, at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 12 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Cox, two sons, Odell and Larry Cox, two brothers, Beckham and Hubert Cox, three sisters, Nettie Perkins, Flossie Edelen, and Geneva Warner, and one grandson, Benjamin Burton.He is survived by the following:
  • Four sons and spouses: Charles Edward and Montrey Cox, Darrell Ray Cox and Hilbert Cox all of Taylor Co., KY; and Gary and Allene Cox of Coburg, KY

  • Three daughters and spouses: Connie Sue Burton, and Carrie Cox and Steve Rafferty all of Campbellsville, KY, and Emma Ellen and Larry McDonald of Florida

  • Fifteen grandchildren

  • Sixteen great-grandchildren

  • His caregiver: Anna Faye Gribbins
