CU Tiger Marching Band to tour area high schools By Katie Johnson News from Campbellsville University Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's Tiger Marching Band, led by Jennifer Tinnell, director of bands/instructor of music, will take to the road on Sept. 18 beginning their recruiting tour to local and surrounding high schools. Their first performance Saturday, Sept. 18 will take place at the South Central Kentucky Marching Band Classic hosted by Glasgow High School. Nine bands will present their shows in the exhibition followed by the Tiger Marching Band performing "Karaoke Classics" as the finale. This seasons show features Journey's "Don't Stop Believin,'" Simon and Garfunkle's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," Abba's "Dancing Queen" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" which will showcase the Thriller zombie dance. Tinnell said, "We chose this year's theme because we wanted the music to relate to both the football fans and our high school band audiences." The Tiger Marching Band's objective, when performing at high schools, is to recruit young band students for Campbellsville University, Tinnell said. There are 90 members in the Tiger Marching Band this year, many of whom became interested in the university because of the recruiting tour. The Tiger Marching Band will be traveling to four high schools across Kentucky. Three of the four bands have CU alumni as their directors including Stephen Bishop ('04) of Taylor County High School, Corey Bonds ('05, with a master's in 2006) of Glasgow High School and Jamie Smith ('04) of LaRue County High School. According to Tinnell, these directors continue to invite the Campbellsville Tiger Marching Band so they can aid in the recruitment of their alma mater. The recruiting tour will continue through September and October with performances at Taylor County High School, September 25, 2010; LaRue County High School, October 2, 2010; and Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Regionals hosted at Butler County High School, October 23, 2010.
